Yahoo is implementing a new ranking model for the U.S. that will take an ad’s quality and the bid amount into consideration.

This new model is designed to help you spend less time in bidding wars and more time creating the most relevant, effective ads, which can help drive better results for your business,” according to recently released information by Yahoo’s Search marketing.

Yahoo’s move clearly follows the current Google Ad-Words Strategy of providing quality over the bid price. In other words, the advertiser paying top dollar for the ad may not have the highest ad placement on a web page. Ad placement is determined by the quality of an ad. Google has been using this quality/bid price model for some time, and is leading the way in Search Engine advertising

What determines an ad’s quality?

Quality is determined by the number of hits and how long a potential client visits the linked site. In other words, quality is determined by an ad’s historical performance – its click-through-rate in relationship to competitive ads. Yahoo is also implementing a second quality measure, using various relevance factors created by Yahoo’s ranking algorithms.

Ron Burgess to Speak at the San Bernardino County Museum

23 Jan 2007 In: Uncategorized

The 2006-2007 guest lecture series resumes at the San Bernardino County Museum on Wednesday evening, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. when Ron Burgess presents “San Bernardino Valley Brings Electric Power to the World.” This lecture is free and open to the public.

In the early 1890’s, electric power existed in a miscellany of incompatible systems that were not cost-effective for industry. Power could not be transmitted more than three miles’ distance. While Westinghouse and Edison battled over “current wars” and electricity standards, a small group in San Bernardino Valley created the modern power system that set the standards for the rest of the country.

This lecture highlights the individuals responsible for creating the modern electric utility by summarizing the amazing developments that started near Riverside in the town of Highgrove, in Pomona, and finally in Redlands where the first commercial, three-phase AC generating and transmission system gave birth to the modern electrical grid.

Ron Burgess is a business consultant in marketing management company and is also an owner of RedFusion Media, a large website development and maintenance company in Inland Empire. His interest in history encompasses historically significant regional hydropower development. He is working with the museum’s Curator of History Michele Nielsen to create a comprehensive online exhibit for the museum showcasing the world-class work done in power generation that occurred in the Inland Valley.

The San Bernardino County Museum sponsors its guest lecture series to share current research by prominent researchers and scholars with the public. Scheduled for this year’s series are Marline Zuk on penguin sexual politics (February 28), Julie Rathbun on Saturn’s moon Enceladus (March 28), Joan Fryxell on boiling volcano lakes (April 25), James Sandos on converting California (May 23), and Alexis Tray on biological anthropology and forensics (June 27).

The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. Parking is free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org.

The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. If assistive listening devices or other auxiliary aids are needed in order to participate in museum exhibits or programs, requests should be made through Museum Visitor Services at least three business days prior to your visit. RedFusion Media Adds Suite of Online Marketing and PR Tools

10 Jan 2007 In: Uncategorized

Marketing and public relations are currently undergoing a major shift to the Internet. One firm in the Inland Empire that is focused on this new trend is RedFusion Media. Located in historic downtown Redlands, the 18-year old firm evolved from the marketing management consulting practice of Ron Burgess. In 1999, the RedFusion Media brand was added to focus on web design and marketing content. Eight years later, RedFusion Media has twelve employees and has become the leading website and Internet marketing firm in the Inland Empire.

“The Internet is a different business than is traditional advertising media; it is more technical and measurable, yet still requires creative skills,” states Burgess. “RedFusion Media, because of our strategic marketing background, is perfectly positioned to service companies that really want to use the Internet for developing new business.”

RedFusion has developed services for all online marketing strategies for branding, targeted marketing, outbound-direct marketing, and natural (or organic) search. Recently, RedFusion has added new services that complete its online marketing capabilities.

One such service involves utilizing newly available methodology to place, track, and measure the effectiveness of local online advertising. This system provides detailed information enabling companies to target geographic areas as small as a 10-mile radius around a city, by using search terms specific to a company’s particular business.

These paid ads appear in response to a keyword search. You can distinguish between free keyword results and paid ads by the use of background shading and the word “sponsorship.” More costly ads appear at the top of the page; less expensive ads appear in the column to the right of the search results. Advertisers pay for the ads on a per-click basis. To make the most of your advertising dollars, RedFusion Media can precisely target keywords to appear during searches made by customers living near your business.

For instance, a tire company with five stores in the Inland Empire can target the keyword “tires” in each of the cities where a store is located, with a different radius around each store’s city. The value of this is that only the people who live or work in the same city as the tire store will be exposed to ads for the store. It is also possible to precisely target national and regional territories. RedFusion Media exclusively offers this unique local keyword service in the Inland Empire, and has partnered with Altek Media Group in Riverside to provide their clients with this specialized vidoe and rich-content services, as well.

Getting found by search engines by using keywords is called search engine optimization (SEO). SEO is free and most companies would kill to be on the first page of a Google search, because a website’s traffic increases dramatically when a search engine gives first page results.

RedFusion Media has a proven track record in improving search position for clients, and also maintains a series of regional and local websites to expose companies to web surfers in the Inland Empire. The most notable is www.InlandEmpire.US , where branding strategies can be developed for niche markets in a local environment.

RedFusion also provides free newsfeeds on its highly ranked InlandEmpire.US site. Using press releases to drive traffic to your website is an explosive new growth area for non-profits and companies alike.

“You can write a press release and have it posted the next day using our service,” states Jon Burgess, Internet Manger. “InlandEmpire.US press releases are picked up almost immediately by Google, pushing traffic immediately to your site.”

While unsolicited marketing materials (SPAM) is still used by some webmasters for their clients, RedFusion does not use this type of negative marketing. Using such methods can actually result in clients’ websites and emails being blocked by large Internet providers and can lead to prosecution and fines. Unwanted emails, like telemarketing, can destroy your branding image. Redfusion offers clients a tool that allows recipients to control what kind of email they desire to receive, so mail such as enewsletters can be relationship builders and not annoyances.

RedFusion Media offers full online services including web design, content development and management, and online marketing. Growing businesses is a priority made possible by using proven tools and techniques to optimize search engine results. Online marketing accurately targets customers, resulting in optimal results to occur in the most cost-effective way.

RedFusion Media Listed With Top Design Firms

10 May 2006 In: Uncategorized

The recent Business Press List of Web Design firms in Southern California’s Inland Empire ranked RedFusion Media as number two, based on number of employees. The Web Design list has just been added by The Business Press. “We didn’t know of other firms like ours, but we really didn’t have any way to tell how we stacked up against others in the area,” states Molly Burgess, of RedFusion Media, “its nice to know.”The largest company listed was an agency in the low desert. Because the ranking was based on number of employees, and not actual web design and Internet business, it is unclear who might be doing more web business. RedFusion derives the majority of its revenue strictly from web design, website content maintenance and Internet marketing.

The web business has fractured into several types of companies today as the Internet turns a teenager (13 years old) next year. “Originally every one tried to do everything,” states Jon Burgess, Internet manger at RedFusion, “hosting, email, dial-up (now broadband) design, updates, news and directories. Now most specialize in broadband, hosting, news, or web design.”

RedFusion Media specializes in the website; design, content creation and maintenance. Unlike the early days of Internet where companies just put the basic information on line, now the website is becoming the center of corporate communications. It’s a big job, and most smaller organizations don’t have designers, writers, editors, and technical people required for the more intense use of the website. Outsourcing one or all of these jobs is the niche that RedFusion Media fills. This is economical for websites up to about 1000 pages before in-house costs makes sense.
